The Sin Eater’s Daughter is a book that deals with a Kingdom of Lormere, and the people who rule. It is a fascinating fantasy story with ever so intriguing synopsis. I enjoyed my time reading it.

Some books you read and you enjoy but still remain unaware as to what you felt about them. This was one such book. It was engaging and interesting but I still don’t exactly know what I feel about it.
Sixteen-year-old Twylla lives in the castle. But although she’s engaged to the prince, no one speaks to her. No one even looks at her. Because Twylla isn’t a member of the court. She’s the executioner. As the goddess-embodied, Twylla kills with a single touch. So each week, she’s taken to the prison and forced to lay her hands on those accused of treason. No one will ever love her. Who could care for a girl with murder in her veins? Even the prince, whose royal blood supposedly makes him immune to her touch, avoids her.
But then a new guard arrives, a boy whose playful smile belies his deadly swordsmanship. And unlike the others, he’s able to look past Twylla’s executioner robes and see the girl, not the goddess. Yet a treasonous romance is the least of Twylla’s problems. The queen has a plan to destroy her enemies-a plan that requires an unthinkable sacrifice. Will Twylla do what it takes to protect her kingdom? Or will she abandon her duty in favor of a doomed love?
The Sin Eaters daughter is one of those books that can be read when you feel like picking up a fantasy which is not heavy on its world building and politics. It is simple and fluent. It is a good choice if one wants to escape to a different world without giving much thoughts to its complications.
Even though the plot seems a bit too simple where at one point you will sit to analyse as to what the conflict really is, but as it is paced really well; the mid of the plot can rather keep you hooked. The end will feel like filled with revelation all at ones. The keeps on getting better as you read.
“A person can say a lot without speaking.”
The book is more of a character based novel than plot based. It really defines each character and its characteristics from one another. You might find yourself wanting something better for your characters.
The writing is first person narrative and thus it is introspective to some extent. We find ourselves in and out of all the emotions that our protagonist feel, Twylla. I really like how there is no info dumping anywhere in the plot. Every detail and information is told very fluently.
I am definitely keeping an eye out for the other two books in the series, as I’m definitely curious to see where these characters finally move on to.
So, my concluding thoughts would be for you to pick this up if you need a light on the go fantasy to escape reality. Pick this up if you are fond of love triangle. (Personally I don’t like love triangles but I don’t mind them either) Pick this up if you live to hear ‘ my lady’ all the time. It’s a quick read.
